Hike or Mountain Bike Trinidad Worm Hole Trails Leashed Dogs Welcome

The Wormhole trails are a popular, community-built trail system located just outside of downtown Trinidad in the high desert landscape. Known primarily for the Wormhole Loop  offering a mix of fast singletrack, technical rock features, and panoramic views of the city and the surrounding plains. Leashed dogs are welcome on the trails.

Trail Highlights and Experience

The main loop is approximately 1.2 to 2 miles long and is rated as a "Blue" or intermediate trail due to its chunky terrain and loose corners. While it can be ridden or hiked in either direction, locals generally recommend a clockwise direction to better enjoy the technical features.

  • Terrain and Features: The climb begins with a short, punchy ascent over loose rocks. The north side of the loop is flatter and sandier, offering exposure near cliff edges with views of the plains. The south side is more technical, featuring "slickrock" sections, optional drops, and the "Challenge Rock" feature.
  • Scenic Viewpoints: At the southern edge of the loop, you’ll find expansive views overlooking the city of Trinidad and Simpson's Rest, a prominent local landmark. The namesake Fishers Peak is also visible from various points along the ridge.
  • Multi-Use Access: These trails are highly regarded for mountain biking but are also popular for trail running and hiking. E-bikes are permitted, and dogs are allowed as long as they remain on a leash.
  • Connectivity: The system is easily accessible from town. You can reach the Wormhole Loop Trailhead Click to open side panel for more information at the west end of Arch Street or connect via the Crossbed Way trail, which runs behind the Masonic Cemetery.
